Bnei Menashe soldiers giving their all for Israel
Israel is nearly 100 days into a war that it never wanted, fighting against Hamas, a terrorist entity on its border who has already murdered over 1200 people including women, children and the elderly, as well as kidnapped 240 people. Many thousands of rockets have been launched into Israel, reaching Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate. There is no end in sight.
Among the hundreds of thousands of mobilized IDF soldiers are over 200 from the Bnei Menashe community.
As part of our commitment and dedication to the Bnei Menashe, we have been actively involved with and supporting the families of the Bnei Menashe soldiers who have unfortunately been injured since the start of the war.
Nathanael Touthang aged 31, a Golani reservist fighter was hurt by Hezbollah shrapnel in his eyes and his right hand on October 23 on the Lebanon border. He was released from Rambam hospital on November 6. He made Aliyah in November 2018 from Manipur, India with his mother Rivka who lives in Beit Shean. Nethanel married Yehudit last year in May. He is to undergo another eye operation in his right eye next month. So, far three surgeries have been done and were successful. He can now see with both eyes and we are all incredibly grateful.
Itzkhak Chawngthu aged 21, an IDF soldier from the Kfir brigade was hurt by shrapnel in northern Gaza on November 20 in his right thigh. He was released from Ashkelon hospital the next morning to his home in Nof Hagalil as, thankfully, his injury was minor. Now he has made a complete recovery. Itzkhak made Aliyah in 2014 with his parents and five siblings from Mizoram, India. He’s far from the only combat soldier among the Bnei Menashe; in fact, there are another 62 combat soldiers of Bnei Menashe from Nof Hagalil alone.
Yonathan Hmar, aged 23, is a reservist in the IDF Tzanchanim brigade who was injured in Gaza in his stomach on December 23 and was brought to Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva where he underwent surgery successfully. He was released from the hospital last week. He is recuperating and improving very well now. Yonathan Hmar made Aliyah with his mother and siblings in 2014 and is living in Nof Hagalil.
