Ronit Treatman: Reconnecting with Jewish roots

Author Ronit Treatman, a good friend of Shavei Israel, grew up in Venezuela, only to discover, decades later, that many of the Catholic families she grew up with are actually descendants of Spanish and Portuguese Jewish communities forced to convert during the Inquisition.

Ronit, who lives in Israel, is now actively involved in the issue of the millions of people in Brazil and Latin America who have Sephardic Jewish ancestry.

Watch Ronit Treatman’s fascinating interview on i24 News (in Spanish, with English subtitles) about her work with Reconectar, an organization that focuses on a reconnection between the descendants of Spanish and Portuguese Jews, as well as her own experiences with these Bnei Anousim, and her book ‘Hands-On Jewish Holidays’, which is a user-friendly guide teaching Jewish traditions, culture and recipes, and is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Hebrew and Russian.
